Late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg should have stepped down from her position so that President Barack Obama rather than President Donald Trump could have picked her replacement, according to HBO host Bill Maher.

The comedian and host of “Real Time With Bill Maher” was asked on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Monday night about the moment that news broke of Ginsburg’s death, reports Fox News.

“Well, it’s not like her death was a shock,” Maher told host Jimmy Kimmel. “She was 100 and had cancer like a million times. I mean, she was a great justice but she should’ve quit.”

“You think so?” Kimmel replied.

“Of course!” Maher said. “Because then we wouldn’t have nutso!” he explained, referring to Trump’s pick to succeed Ginsburg, Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

Maher then launched into a critique of the Democratic Party, accusing its members of squandering their opportunities to exercise their political power.

“The Democratic plan for the Supreme Court was ‘Ruth Bader Ginsburg doesn’t die.’ And that’s why they’re such a loser party. I vote for them, but they don’t know how to do politics. I mean, Obama did have her over to the office, you know, when he was still in office to hint.”

Maher claimed Obama urged Ginsburg to retire during a 2013 lunch meeting. Ginsburg “should’ve taken the hint” and quit while a Democrat was in power, he said.

The TV host has vocally opposed Barrett’s appointment to the Supreme Court and referred to her as a “f—ing nut.” Barrett was confirmed Monday in a 52-48 virtual party line vote in the Senate and officially sworn in on Tuesday.
